Who (and What) Fills Up Your Cup?

Energy, Awareness and Living Well

We hear it all the time:

“You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

But here’s the better question -
Do you actually know what fills yours?

Because being busy isn’t the same as being fulfilled.
And doing more doesn’t always mean feeling better.

At Moco Coaching, we see this every day: people running on empty, ticking boxes, achieving goals… yet still feeling drained.

So let’s shift the focus.

What Does “Filling Your Cup” Actually Mean?

It’s not just self-care clichés or the occasional day off.

Filling your cup is about:

  • Energy (what leaves you feeling alive, not depleted)

  • Alignment (what feels true to who you are)

  • Connection (to yourself, others, and what matters)

It’s less about escape…
and more about sustainable energy.

Who Fills Your Cup?

Not all relationships energise you.

Some leave you lighter.
Some leave you exhausted.

The difference?

People who fill your cup tend to:

  • Listen without judgment

  • Support your growth (not keep you small)

  • Leave you feeling more like yourself-not less

This isn’t about cutting people off overnight.

It’s about noticing the impact people have on your energy.

What Fills Your Cup?

Here’s where most people get it wrong:

They assume what should feel good… instead of noticing what actually does.

Cup-fillers often include:

  • Movement that energises (not punishes)

  • Quiet time to think and reset

  • Creativity or flow states

  • Meaningful conversations

  • Time outdoors

But it’s personal.

👉 What fills your cup might look completely different to someone else’s.

Why We Lose Track of It

Because life gets loud.

  • Deadlines

  • Expectations

  • Responsibilities

  • “Shoulds”

Over time, we stop asking:
“What do I need?”

And start asking:
“What’s next?”

That’s when the cup slowly drains.

How to Spot What Actually Fills You Up

Here’s where awareness changes everything.

1. Track Your Energy (Not Just Your Time)

At the end of the day, ask:

  • What gave me energy today?

  • What drained me?

Patterns don’t lie.

2. Notice How You Feel After-Not During

Some things feel productive in the moment… but leave you depleted.

Others seem small… but leave you energised for hours.

Your body gives you the answer-if you listen.

3. Pay Attention to When You Feel Most Like “You”

That’s your clue.

When do you feel:

  • Relaxed

  • Clear

  • Energised

  • Present

That’s your cup filling.

4. Remove the “Should” Filter

Not everything that looks good on paper feels good in reality.

Let your experience-not expectations-guide you.

How to Do More of What Fills You

Awareness is step one. Action is step two.

Start Small

You don’t need a life overhaul.

  • 10 minutes outside

  • One meaningful conversation

  • A short walk without your phone

Small actions = big shifts over time.

Schedule It (Yes, Really)

If it matters, it needs space.

Treat your energy like a priority-not an afterthought.

Protect It

Not everything deserves your time.

Saying no to what drains you…
creates space for what fuels you.

Build It Into Your Routine

The goal isn’t occasional relief.

It’s consistent replenishment.

A Coaching Perspective

At Moco Coaching, we don’t just focus on performance.

We focus on sustainable performance.

Because:

  • Burnout isn’t a badge of honour

  • Exhaustion isn’t a strategy

  • And running on empty isn’t success

Real performance comes from:

  • Energy awareness

  • Intentional choices

  • Alignment with what truly matters

Your life isn’t just about what you produce.

It’s about how you feel while living it.

So instead of asking:
“What do I need to get done?”

Try asking:
“What do I need to feel full?”

Because when your cup is full—
everything else flows better.

What’s one thing you can do this week that genuinely fills your cup… not just looks like it should?
